OK .... So What Do We Do Now?

Well now that we are done bashing each other, and we still seems to be a fair amount of energy in the air. So how about we try using it for something constructive. I was wondering if there were some things that we can agree to work together on.

I personally think that we need to get big business/private industry money out of politics. I think that this is critical in getting things done in Washington.

So is this something that those of us who hold differing political views can work together on?

Maybe you can give me some ideas on things we can agree to work on together.

I agree about the big business. But I think it goes beyond money in politics.

Many of these businesess have been afforded rights that were once reserved for individuals. Freedom of expression. Freedom of speech. Both of which have been used to defend corporations' 'inalienable rights' to influence the political discourse.

It's kind of scary to me that many of these businesses have the same protections as individuals, but are countless of times more powerful than any one individual. Heck, a lot of these corporations are more powerful than most nation-states. In reality, though, a corporation exists as a publicly (or at least governmentally) sanctioned entity, and should be subject to a certain degree to the will of the people. Or at least should have some responsibility to the communities that host them.

I'm up for rethinking the role of the mega-influential, multinational corporation in society in general. Not sure what it means, but I've been mulling that one over lately.

I suppose that's why people think I'm a pinko.

I think on some level I agree with you, I don't know what that looks like yet. I think a good first step is trying to loosen their control on the political process. I also think the next step is to force them to accept the same level of responsibility as the rest of us..... so where do we start?
