As I was driving home tonight on 161 I couldn't help but notice the roving searchlight atracting attention for a "gentlemans" club. Every time I see it, I can't help but feel that this searchlight just seems to pry into my consiousness, and this really bothers me. There seems to be nowhere that one can hide from sex in this culture. It seems like everywhere I go I am constantly bombarded by sex, by the promise of sex. It is a wonder to me that any male in can get through life without falling victim to this constant bombardment.
It also seems that our cutlure has really lowered the bar and has very very low expectations for men. If you flip through any mens magazine, apparantly all men are expected to watch porn, apparently all men are expected to chase after women like dogs in heat, apparently we men have no self control and are expected to jump women at every oppertunity.
This situation in our churches is not much better. In spite of how difficult it is for men to maintain any degree of sexual purity, the response of the church is to beat our men down with shame. So instead of accepting Christ"s forgiveness and healing the sexual wounds, the end up spiraling out of control and into ruin.
When are we as a culture going to realize that bombarding our men with sex and then expecting them to act like "gentelman" just isn't realistic
