feeling..... conflicted

I have to admit that I was a little dissappointed this weekend when they announced from the pulpit that there was a petition circulating about for the defense of marraige ammendment here in Ohio. Not because I am against it but because it came from the pulpit. When the preacher announced the petition he in the same breath said that we wanted to be welcoming to homosexuals in our church. This sounded and felt like conflicting messages to me. I understand and agree with the churches stand on homosexuality, I guess I am just questioning that political activity being promoted from the pulpit. It just didn't feel right to me.

So we as a church should just throw lip service to the issue. It isn't a political issue, it is what do we want our country to stand for. This is an issue about taking God out of our country that we have a say in and not just the supreme court for a change.
ISn't it biblical to stand up for what the church believes. I see no difference in what was said Sun. than wast is said any other Sun. That a homosexual lifestyle is a sin. There is such a thing as speaking truth in love. Are we to sit on our hands and watch Christian values decline even more??? I still love and care about my gay friends. I want them to come to know Christ. How will they respect my beliefs if I lie down on issues that directly confront it. We can stand and still have open arms.
BTW he did say IF you want to sign it they are there.

i agree with you brian.

rich has said so himself on numerous occasions that politics and political stands are something a church should not endorse, but rather individuals within the church should be fighting along political lines.

asking people to sign a petition is making the church endorse a certain viewpoint.

So if they pass a law taking away public worship for any religion you wouldn't want to see petitions to overturn that law?

that's not even the point. i'm saying that he mentioned before that a church was not supposed to endorse a political view and then turns around and does the exact thing opposite of what he said previously.

It is a biblical issue made political. All that he is doing is standing up for what is biblical. I respect that.
