Well another Father's day has come and gone, honestly I am glad it's over, Father's Day tends to be be little difficult for me. Everyone always wants to talk about the great things that their fathers did for them, there is of course nothing wrong with that, it's just more than a little painful for me that's all, and I guess I am more than a little envious too. I see people who have had, and still have good relationships with their fathers and it just brings on bad memories.
Anyway, not to bring everyone down, I am glad that there are such good father/son relationships out there it does bring me some hope for the future

Brian--
The beautiful thing is that you have a chance to make it great for your kids.
Kori's family (and mine, in its own ways) was pretty screwed up, and her relationship with her dad wasn't very good at all.
We've gotten so much joy from knowing that we're providing for our kids what she didn't have: a loving, secure home, where nobody's leavin' anyone, and where everyone's needs are met.
I believe that God wants to use all of your suffering and even your own shortcomings as a platform for ministry, and as evidence of God's fantastic grace by creating for you a marriage, and maybe even a family with kids, that is honoring to God. He wants to make you into the kind of husband, and maybe father, that will provide for our neighbors and community a vibrant, modern-day parable of God's love for his church.
I'm praying for your upcoming nuptials (funny word, eh?), and for your marriage. God wants you to succeed even more than you want you to succeed.
Peace.
